So you’re already dreaming of your next escape? Fantastic! In an attempt to get the most value out of your next escape, please take a moment to consider the following questions and/or factors. This questionnaire is essentially the “who, what, when, where, why and how” of your ideal trip. It’s a fun exercise to do with the people you are planning on traveling with. By answering these questions honestly (to the best of your ability), a roadmap to finding your next vacation will emerge. Jot down your answers in pencil as you go through each question. Then, read my helpful considerations article (conveniently located after the questionnaire) and then adjust your answers if necessary.
- Do you know why you are going? If “yes”, then elaborate. If “no”, then take a moment to consider. Is this a rest and relaxation trip? Do you simply need a break? Are you hoping this vacation is enriching culturally? Do you want to learn something new? Do you seek enlightenment?
- Do you know where you want to go or are you open to ideas? If “yes”, then elaborate. If “no”, then take a moment to consider. It's important to note some plan based on a feeling they are trying to achieve and then they search for places that they believe will help them achieve that feeling. While others are set on seeing new places and evaluating whether or not those places meet their criteria.
- What Type of Vacation is this? Is this a cruise vacation, theme park, national park, land vacation or some combination?
- Is there anything specific you wish to do or see on this trip? Think about your itinerary (or lack thereof). List a few important ideas of things you hope to do and see on this trip.
- Do you plan on leaving your home country? Is this a domestic trip, international or galactic?
- From your vacation, what do you want the key “Takeaways” to be? In other words, when you return home what do you want to remember most? Or what do you hope to achieve?
- Who is going with you? Is this a family trip or a solo trip or a getaway with friends or perhaps just you and your partner?
- How long can you be away? Is this an extended weekend, a day trip or a longer trip? Define your ideal vacation by the number of days away (including travel days).
- What month (and year) would you like to go? Is this a firm timeframe based on your own factors or are your dates flexible?
- Do you have a budget? If not, how would you describe your budget for this trip? Tight Budget, A Luxurious Splurge or somewhere in the world of Moderate?
Planning a vacation can be extremely gratifying, isn’t it? Now that you have written down your initial vacation thoughts using the questions above, let’s take your planning one step further by pondering my vacation considerations listed below.
