Bayer to build $2.2B plant in New Albany

(The Center Square) – Ohio has landed a $2.2 billion plant that will be built in New Albany by pharmaceutical giant Bayer.
“The new site will be home to manufacturing expertise and a skilled workforce that will strengthen our ability to deliver innovative, high-quality medicines to patients both in the United States and abroad,” Bayer CEO Bill Anderson said. “The new site will be home to manufacturing expertise and a skilled workforce that will strengthen our ability to deliver innovative, high-quality medicines to patients both in the United States and abroad.”
Gov. Mike DeWine said the project will create 600 jobs.
“This project firmly solidifies Ohio’s place among global biomanufacturing leaders as a destination for life sciences investment,” Dewine said in a statement.
About 1,500 workers will be involved in building the factory.
The Ohio Life Sciences Training Center is scheduled to open the summer to train Ohioans to work as biomanufacturing operators and technicians. JobsOhio, the city of New Albany, the state of Ohio and The New Albany Company have helped fund the training center, according to DeWine.
The network CNBC and Consumer News recently voted Ohio the best state in the United States to do business. Ohio's infrastructure, cost of doing business, quality of life and other factors in granting the coveted ranking.
