Review: Intercontinental Miami

In an age when I find quality control to be lacking, and customer service handed over like a crinkled wastepaper basket time sheet, I was introduced by chance to the Intercontinental Miami…game changer.

When I reached out to corporate about accommodating my family as a precursor to our cruise leaving the port of Miami the next morning, I got a resounding yes, yes, yes…and they did not disappoint.

The lobby greeting was that out of a Kardashians South Beach episode, only we were not in South Beach, and I am definitely not a Kardashian.  I thought Gloria Estefan was going to invite me to do the Conga right there at the check in line.  Music blaring. People moving and grooving to the Miami heat.   A world of transformation that was very welcome.

We arrived a little weary and hungry from the long east coast haul…oh, the drama, but nonetheless, we wanted to finish our travel day off with food and a bed.   Our reception at well, the reception desk, was like arriving in Candyland and requesting lollypops: sweet, efficient, smiles for everyone.   Room ready, check in done in a nano second, and up to the room we went.

I always harbor some inner trauma when I order room service….the wait time can be like an inmate waiting for a lethal injection….JUST DO IT ALREADY.  So I kept my kids and my husband busy with small tasks to get us ready for shove off the next day.  But, to what did my wandering eyes should appear, but room service arriving in the time they said it would!    And, with the cutest wait staff.   Like a mom dog feeding hungry puppies, in twenty minutes everyone fed and satiated…time for bed, in probably the most comfortable hotel bed I have laid my head on in years.

We were upgraded to a club level room, which, when you see a chance, take it.  Snacks, drinks and a wonderful buffet breakfast in the morning, with a view. Our room, though, had the best view of the port and all the ships waiting for new sailors like ourselves.

A few caveats for Miami interlopers, completely separate from the resort.

Bag the Uber and head right for the taxi line.  Much more efficient and already waiting for you.   Most airports have a designated ride share area which sucks, and can be far away from the terminal exit. The same goes for the hotel. Book your Uber in advance or a half hour before you need it. We ended up with a taxi again, which was the best way to go to head to our ship.

IHG resorts your Intercontinental Miami gets a big pulgar up from this Italian Latina.   We couldn’t ask for any better, except a longer stay.   My kids asked for another night, and I wish we had stayed longer..hungout by the beautiful pool.  But, Mario always said, save a corner of the world for next time…and that is a definite.

Thank you to Gina, Frankie and the amazing staff who made it all possible.
