Can someone explain how we’re already well into August?

Summer has a way of doing that. We spend months anticipating it, only to blink and realize it’s slipping through our fingers. Perhaps that’s why we travel—to slow time down just enough to savor it.

This week’s edition of That Passport Life is all about gaining perspective. We’ll take you above America, visiting some of our nation’s most spectacular observation decks where the views are every bit as memorable as the destinations themselves. Then we’ll travel even higher, exploring some of the world’s most extraordinary restaurants where dining truly happens on top of the world. Along the way, don’t miss another lineup of stellar travel podcasts filled with ideas and inspiration for your next journey.

Here at home, our family’s biggest adventure this week has been spent in jolly old London—at least by way of the stage. Our youngest is performing in Mary Poppins, and watching the joy, confidence, and imagination that musical theater brings to young performers has been one of the great highlights of our summer. Sometimes the greatest journeys aren’t measured in miles, but in watching someone you love discover new confidence.

It was also a genuine joy to be back behind the radio microphone this week. The news never seems to take a vacation, and there were important stories demanding thoughtful conversation. Thank you, as always, for allowing me to spend part of your afternoons together.

One of the week’s greatest blessings came from our daily conversations with Pastor Ryan Baitzel of Emergence Church in New Jersey. Together we walked through Psalm 27, arriving again and again at its timeless message: Don’t do fear. In an anxious world, that’s a truth worth carrying with us wherever we travel.
