First things first.

Read into it whatever you want, but CBS said they wouldn’t allow the interview “due to concerns with infringing on the FCC’s Equal Time Rule for candidates,” as Talarico is in a heated US Senate primary with voting right around the corner in March.

Colbert disputed the application of this rule, noting that it had not been enforced for late-night talk shows in decades.

Ya don’t say, Steven. There is a rule that no one followed but now we are expected to follow it. Welcome to “elections have consequences.”

Imagine All the People

DECADES of having every leftist, Democratic candidate all over the airwaves, morning, noon, and night, and never being required to have their GOP opponent on air.

In 2025, 59 out of 60 candidates as guests on late-night talk shows were Democratic.

From 2022-2025, Colbert has had on 230 left-leaning guests who discussed politics and 1 “right-leaning” guest. Liz Cheney.

If you wanna get just good and pissed off, wander on over to Media Research Center/Newsbusters and look at the break down of minutes given to left-leaning people and perspectives versus the right, look at the minutes of airtime, the percentage of jokes told demeaning or berating everything and everyone on the right, the negative coverage versus non-coverage for Trump and Biden, the make-up of editorial boards, the voting practices, the donations of the media industry…My God, it took George Clooney publicly acknowledging what celebrities and media had known for four years, Biden was unfit.

And it’s from this context Colbert and Talarico sit and talk about the dangerous infringement on the First Amendment??

It’s already such disingenuous horse hockey and they haven’t even asked or answered a question.

  • “Trying to control what we watch, what we read…?” Y’all have forced down LGBTQ quotas down our throats, into our classrooms, into our sports, in every movie, in libraries…for YEARS.
  • “Corporate media executives are selling out the First Amendment to curry favor with corrupt politicians and a threat to any of our First Amendment rights is a threat to all our First Amendment rights.” Are you kidding me? Are we really going to act like this has been to the benefit of the GOP this whole time?
  • “We have shattered grassroots fundraising records all without taking a dime from corporate PACs.” In THIS election. TODAY. Talarico means to say “in this election…today” because he was absolutely funded by a Super-PAC in every other race he ran. And as of February 20th, Texas Tribune says his campaign has been flooded with dark money. Dark money floods Texas’ U.S. Senate primary races
  • “Presently you are a seminarian.” Again, I am not inferring anything. But I would like to know what this actually means. He is clearly educated and bright, but are you “pastor,” student or what? Trusted sites have different answers.
  • “The right attempts to co-opt Christianity to say that, you know, you can’t believe in God, you can’t believe in Christ.” Again, allowed to be said like it’s common sense. Mind blowing. Y’all, if the right co-opted Christianity it was because the left abandoned it entirely. No one made Democrats remove any shred of God or faith from their platforms for the last decade. No one made Biden investigate Catholics like domestic terrorists. No one made Diane Feinstein look with absolute disdain on Justice Barret’s devout Catholic faith as a threat to democracy. Texas Monthly, Texas Tribune have done interviews with Talarico joking about how his faith makes him the least likely to be a Democrat, how he might be mistaken as for Republican. Friends, this isn’t an issue of one side co-opted Christianity it’s the reality that only one side allowed Christianity.
  • “…for 50 years, the religious right, a political movement, that is the perfect description for it. They convinced a lot of our fellow Christians that the most important issues were abortion and gay marriage.” Ummm. Maybe that’s because the left has made abortion and gay marriage the central issues of the last 50 years? This was not the war we wanted to fight. It was the war we were drafted into. As though LGBTQ issues and abortion are not the central issues of the left. SMH.
  • “…abortion and gay marriage. Two issues that aren’t mentioned in the Bible. Two issues that Jesus never talked about.” I will unpack this in my faith post.
  • “Jesus in Matthew:25 tells us exactly how you and I, and every one of our fellow believers, how we’re going to be judged and how we’re going to be saved. By feeding the hungry, by healing the sick, by welcoming the stranger. Nothing about going to church, nothing about voting Republican. It was all about how you treat other people.” Yes, the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats addresses Christian care and concern, but in the context of the whole New Testament…No, we are saved by grace through faith in Christ alone, good works is an overflow of that salvation. If this were not so, you could be very kind to others in lieu of trusting Christ.
  • On the issue of Separation of Church and State as it pertains to the 10 Commandments being required to be present in public school classrooms. This is a long conversation. But I would briefly make this point, if you don’t want to have the 10 Commandments up for fear of how it resonates with the Muslim, Buddhist, Sikh students…how do you think Christian and Muslim students have felt when that rainbow Pride flag is present? And not just present. Required on uniforms, celebrated in curriculum…how do you think Christian and Muslim students feel when one’s sexuality trumps their right to free exercise of religion. Everybody loves the “Establishment Clause” but doesn’t want to talk about the “Free Exercise” clause. Government was limited to protect free exercise and instead we have been had religion beaten out of us with a stick for 50 years.
  • “…nothing Christian about Christian nationalism…” That would require an entirely separate post. I’ll touch more on faith in my Hey Salty Lady post.
  • “Steven Colbert… you’ve shown people in this country what Christianity should be and what it means to actually live out the teachings of Jesus.” LOL. Colbert the Face of Christendom
  • “God is to big to be involved in politics… but politics should grow out of your faith…but Christian Nationalism is evil.” They want the compassion of Christ without the commands of Christ.

Then they spend time on Talarico’s beef with Collin Allred. Whatever. Only they know the truth, I don’t.

And then a conversation on how Furries and culture wars are the imaginings of the right. That’s it.

The left ever grounded in reality, bound to common sense and moral good while the right hunts imaginary enemies.

One quick question though, why are we even discussing Furries? Where’d they come from? TPUSA? Church camp?

Notice Colbert never asks Talarico to square progressive policies with his faith. Where is the line between loving others until it hurts others? How does his faith align with transgender ideology pushed on children, same-sex surrogacy, or trafficking? Where was “love your neighbor” when children were trafficked across our borders to disappear into God knows what horrible reality?

On the left “loving others” means “letting others do what they want.” Regardless of what they want.

Unless they are a cake-baker in Colorado.
