Petersen surprised to land new role as Dream interim coach

ATLANTA (AP) — Veteran coach Mike Petersen is very surprised to be serving as the Atlanta Dream's interim coach. Petersen, who had been an assistant, landed the new title after former coach Nicki Collen was named Baylor's coach in a surprise announcement. No one was expecting Collen to leave less than two weeks before the season. The 63-year-old Petersen says he has no interest in the full-time job. He says his new title is “zero about me” and all about providing the best leadership for his players. He is the former coach at North Texas, Wake Forest, Gonzaga, New Mexico State and TCU.
