Inmate on release for Mississippi funeral is found in Ohio

AKRON, Ohio — A Mississippi man serving a life sentence has been arrested in Ohio after escaping while on temporary release to attend a funeral. The Akron Beacon Journal reports that 33-year-old Garnett Hughes overpowered his guards while on release Friday in Mississippi. Police say they spotted Hughes entering the home in Akron, Ohio, on Tuesday. Authorities questioned the woman who lived in the home. They say Hughes was arrested when he attempted to escape the home. Hughes will be booked in the local jail until his extradition back to Mississippi. The woman was arrested and charged with misleading police.
