(The Center Square) – President Donald Trump says Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson should be in jail for failing to protect U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

Trump posted on Truth Social Wednesday morning that “Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect ICE officers. Governor Pritzker also.”

Pritzker quickly responded with a post on X.

“Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power. What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?” Pritzker posted.

Johnson posted on social media "Chicago will not be intimidated."

"This is not the first time Trump has tried to have a Black man unjustly arrested," Johnson responded on social media. "I'm not going anywhere."

Trump has been engaged in a war of words with Pritzker and Johnson for several weeks over his administration’s enforcement of federal immigration law and the migrant sanctuary policies favored by Democrats in Chicago and across Illinois.

During a press briefing Tuesday, Johnson called the President “a tyrant.” Pritzker described Trump administration actions as “tyranny” when he joined Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz for a discussion Tuesday afternoon in Minneapolis.
