TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A sheriff’s office in Ohio says two jail nurses have been suspended for failure to properly care for an inmate who died after being found unresponsive. A report released by the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office upheld internal charges of “incompetency or inefficiency” against the nurses. The county’s former sheriff says it’s not clear whether the nurses actions resulted in the inmate’s death last fall. An autopsy says the inmate died from complications from a heart problem that’s often caused by drug abuse. The report says the inmate was having trouble breathing and used a large amount of drugs before he was jailed.
