Poll: Crowley has slight advantage on Tiffany in Wisconsin governor's race

(The Center Square) – Wisconsin registered voters slightly preferred David Crowley to Tom Tiffany in the state’s governor’s race, with the difference falling within the new Marquette Poll’s margin of error.

Crowley had a 46% to 45% advantage among registered voters and 49% to 46% advantage among likely voters in the governor’s race heading into the Nov. 3 general election.

The Marquette Poll was conducted Sept. 16-23, interviewing 843 Wisconsin registered voters, with margin of error of +/-4.3 percentage points. For likely voters, the sample size is 692 with a margin of error of +/-4.8 percentage points.

That’s an increase from the 49% to 44% advantage for Crowley among likely voters in August.

Crowley had an advantage among independent voters with 44% support compared to 18% for Tiffany while 95% of Republicans backed Tiffany, a Republican, and 96% of Democrats supported their party’s candidate, Crowley.

Crowley held a substantial lead in the Milwaukee and Madison media markets while Tiffany led in the Green Bay/Appleton markets.

Of those interviewed, 85% of Democrats said that they planned to vote in the general election while 78% of Republicans said that they plan to vote.

Among the registered voters who were poll, 35% say they heard a lot about Tiffany’s recent emergency plane landing on Lake Wausau while 45% heard a little and 20% heard nothing at all.

Likely Democrat voters had a 48% to 45% advantage in who the voters said that they plan to voter for in Wisconsin Legislature races while the Democrats had a one percentage point advantage among registered voters.
