As left-wing liberals denounce the use of tear gas on the unruly mob of caravan migrants over the weekend, reports show the same tactic was used fairly frequently under former President Obama.

The Washington Times reports that, according to Homeland Security data, U.S. Customs and Border Protection used tear gas 26 times in fiscal 2012 and 27 times in 2013.

Border patrol also used pepper spray frequently under Obama— up to once a month - including 151 times in 2013.

Critics, including immigrant-rights groups and congressional Democrats, have said use of tear gas is “un-American.”

But, the data showing the increased use of it during the Obama administration poses a challenge for those on the left to explain why it’s now considered unacceptable.
