Democrat New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is signing legislation that he claims will protect LGBTQ rights.

The so-called Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act says transgender New Yorkers are now covered under the state's anti-discrimination laws.

It also bans licensed counselors from providing “conversion therapy” services that “seek to change a person’s sexual orientation or seek to change a person’s gender identity to conform” to their sex at birth.

In response, the Alliance Defending Freedom says at least one psychotherapist has filed suit against the city for violating his freedom of speech and infringing on his religious faith and that of his patients.

Dr. Dovid Schwartz says the new law will prevent him from serving patients who want his help in overcoming same-sex attraction, based on religious beliefs.
