Some students at Hofstra University in New York are demanding a statue of Thomas Jefferson be removed from campus.

Campus Reform reports student and Black Lives Matter activist JaLoni Amor, released a petition calling for the statue’s removal, proclaiming that Jefferson has been embraced as an “icon” by “white supremacist and neo-nazi organizations” like the Ku Klux Klan.

Amor created a Facebook event for an upcoming protest titled, “Jefferson Has Gotta Go!” backed by several groups including the Democrats of Hofstra University, Queer and Trans People of Color Coalition, and Young Democratic Socialists of Hofstra.

One conservative student pointed out to Amor that people like Jefferson gave them their freedom of speech to protest the statue.
