Nearly six in 10 American adults believe gun ownership does more to improve public safety because it allows law-abiding people to protect themselves.

The Washington Examiner reports an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll out Friday found 58 percent of people think legal gun owners help make the country a safer place.

Switzerland may be a good example of what gun ownership can do for the safety of citizens. In a nation of 8.3 million people about 2 million of them own guns.

In 2016, Switzerland had 47 homicides with firearms and their overall murder rate is near zero.

That wouldn’t fly with Democrats in the U.S. where according to a YouGov survey, forty-four percent said they would support a complete ban on all guns.

81 percent of Republicans said they oppose that idea.
