Students react to departure of NDSU's Phillips

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The departure of North Dakota State University men's basketball coach Saul Phillips is a hot topic on campus.

Ohio University has hired Phillips, who led NDSU to a record-tying 26 wins this past season and a trip to the NCAA Tournament — where the Bison upset Oklahoma.

Many students say they understand the business side of sports, but they're sad to see Phillips go.

Freshman Andi Elvert tells WDAY-TV ( ) that the tournament experience was a great moment for the school, and it's hard to see Phillips leave. But Junior John Carlin says Phillips can't be blamed for wanting to advance his career.

Phillips said in a statement that he leaves with "nothing but positive memories."
