ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan's interior minister says the U.S. drone attack that killed the leader of the Pakistani Taliban was "murder" to the peace effort. Hakimullah Mehsud (hah-kee-MUH'-lah meh-SOOD') was killed the day before the Pakistani government was formally invite his militant group to peace talks. Mehsud led an umbrella group of militant factions that seek to topple Pakistan's democratic system and impose Islamic law.
PARIS (AP) — The French Foreign Ministry says two French journalists working for the radio station RFI have been killed hours after being kidnapped by gunmen in Africa. Their bodies were found today in northern Mali. The region was seized last year by a faction of al-Qaida which has used kidnappings of foreigners, especially French citizens, to bankroll its operations.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Travelers across the country are feeling ripple effects from yesterday's shooting at Los Angeles International Airport. An airport spokeswoman says about 1,550 flights and 167,000 passengers have been affected. Flights are taking off and landing at LAX but Terminal 3 remains closed as investigators gather evidence in the fatal shooting of a Transportation Security Administration officer and the wounding of two other TSA workers.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The government's troubled health insurance website is taking the night off. The Health and Human Services Department says it's shutting down HealthCare.gov tonight so a technology team can work on it, but it should be back up in the morning. The federal website has been cranky since it locked up on the day it went live, Oct. 1. The administration is hoping to have it running the way it should by the end of the month.
HILLSDALE, N.J. (AP) — Johnny Kucks, who pitched a three-hitter for the New York Yankees in Game 7 of the 1956 World Series, has died. He was 81. Kucks pitched in four World Series with the Yankees from 1955-58. The right-hander is best known for his crisp performance in New York's 9-0 victory against the Brooklyn Dodgers in the last World Series game at Ebbets Field.
